Michael Gieson
CEO and CTO

Mr. Gieson is the founder, CEO, and chief technical officer of Plaino LLC; where he oversees all product development, engineering and customer care activities.

Mr. Gieson is a pioneer in his field encompassing the earliest web based video development and applications with over a decade of Flash™ programming and development experience. Gieson created the first Wimpy™ players in the early 2000’s and started the phenomenal growth of Wimpy to its current market leadership.

Previous to Plaino, Gieson worked at FunMail (now FunMobility), a mobile phone content development firm. Gieson developed functional prototypes for FunMail’s text-to-animation system, which delivers animation and graphic content to 3G cell phones, and developed pilot applications using Adobe Flash software to emulate 3G cell phones to connect directly to the live application residing in the network.

Prior to FunMail, Mr. Gieson was chief creative officer and managed a team of designers and developers to create a pioneering streaming-video website, StudioNext, which served as a portal for independent film producers. Gieson developed a flexible user interface that allowed each producer to have a distinct design while still tied to the StudioNext distribution and selection system.

Earlier, Mr. Gieson worked as web development manager for Advanced Radio Telecom Corp. (now FiberTower Communications), where he developed and defined internal procedures to address the workflow process between IT programmers, web site designers and account managers.

Mr. Gieson’s design career also includes experience as an art director, computer graphics manager, and freelance web and graphics artist.

Mr. Gieson holds a BFA in Multimedia from the University of North Florida and has been a teacher of Flash and other Internet technologies at the Art Institute of California in San Diego.
